10 IN '10 TEEN CHICK LIT CHALLENGE
I've pledged to read ten teen chick lit novels in 2010. Here's the list I'm hoping to complete and the books I've read already:

|
1. Heist Society by Ally Carter
This is the first Ally Carter book I've read and I loved it! Katrina is a recovering art thief who is drawn back into the family business when her dad is accused of lifting some priceless art that he swears he didn't touch. With a team of teens ready to help -- aka the Heist Society -- Katarina must clear her dad's name and steal back the art that is missing. I loved Katarina, her (sort of?) crush Hale, and her hilarious team of helpers, but what really had me flipping pages was the pacing. You just couldn't stop reading! There was always a new clue, or a time-crunching disaster to avoid and I couldn't risk closing the book without finding out what happened! You'll feel the same, I'm sure.

2. The Daughters by Joanna Philbin
I've cheated, I know, because this book isn't out till late spring, but it is too good to keep off my list! Joanna is a first-time author who knows full well what it is like to be one of "The Daughters" she writes about -- girls who are the offspring of major celebrities (Joanna's dad is Regis Philbin). I was pleasantly surprised by how sweet the tale was, and I really felt drawn to all three besties who navigate the public eye and their own personal issues with their dignity intact. This is the first in the series and I can't wait for the next installment!

3. The Lonely Hearts Club by Elizabeth Eulberg
Elizabeth is another first-time author whose book I couldn't put down. I loved, loved, loved how Penny Lane (named for the Beatles song) starts a Lonely Hearts Club for girls who have had it up to HERE with guys who aren't all they claim to be. When it seems like the entire population of females at her high school are ditching boyfriends to join Penny's club, and it threatens the very existence of the prom, you'll be laughing out loud, I promise.

4. Gimme a Call by Sarah Mlynowski
Ever wonder what life would be like if you could talk to your younger self and tell her all the things she should or shouldn't do in the years to come? Devi does just that with sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking results with the help of a magic cellphone. I love anything and everything by Sarah and her latest did not disappoint.

5. and 6. Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series --
I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You and
Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy
As someone who always dreamed of rappelling off the side of a building a la Jennifer Garner in Alias (still one of my all-time favorite shows EVER) I knew I'd like Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls before I even finished reading the first page of the first book.
Welcome to the world of teen girl spies. Cammie Morgan has been born and practically raised for the job of detonating bombs and finding clever uses for duct tape (something fellow Gallagher Girls invented). But what she hasn't been schooled in is boys so when a cute guy she can't resist catching her eye, she awkwardly embarks on a relationship with him that will change everything for her, her friends and her school.
The first book, by far, is my favorite, but I'm about to read the third, Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover, so that could change! |

WHAT I'M HOPING TO ADD TO MY LIST:
The Cinderella Society by Kay Kennedy (out in April)
Only the Good Spy Young by Ally Carter
Insatiable by Meg Cabot (out in June) * I'm a big scaredy cat so I hope I can brave this chick lit with a vampire twist!
More to come!
